Disturbing New Images From The Gulf Oil Spill

**Edit to Add **  This is what a Brown Pelican looks like NOT covered in oil.

You can view the rest of them here.

These are the images that BP doesn't want you to see, and has been working hard at keeping out of the public eye to avoid the outrage photos like this are sure to cause.

I saw these yesterday and they are heartbreaking! These are the innocents....I heard yesterday that one drop of oil on a egg will kill it, before the oil hit some birds were already nesting and pics of oil smeared eggs....I can only imagine how all the animals are suffering and it breaks my heart. It is Ecocide that will affect the WORLD for decades if not at least a century....

  2. I didn't want to look but I am glad you posted them. we can't turn away from these fellow creatures and pretend everything is okay. I am reminded of this poem from Antonio Machado

    The Wind, One Brilliant Day

The wind, one brilliant day, called
to my soul with an odor of jasmine.

"In return for the odor of my jasmine,
I'd like all the odor of your roses."

"I have no roses; all the flowers
    in my garden are dead."

"Well then, I'll take the withered petals
and the yellow leaves and the waters of the fountain."

the wind left. And I wept. And I said to myself:
"What have you done with the garden that was entrusted to you?"

  3. Indeed they are difficult to look at but people need to see them. As hard as it is to see, we need as many people as possible to see this and understand just how atrocious this disaster is and what it is doing.

  4. I agree Eye. My suggestion to put some of these pics up on the Oily Palin post @ Palingates was unanimously shot down, but they did provide the link. I avoided looking for a long time, and when I did I cried, and then I GOT MAD. That's why people have to see these, they need to get angry, pissed off. It can't happen again.
